Notice of Series

1. Rules:

This Series shall be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of US Sailing, this Notice of Series and the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions issued by the organizers of each Series Regatta.


2. Eligibility, Entry & Fees:

2.1 The 2024-2025 RS Tera SoCal Series is open to all members of the RS Sailing North America Class Association. You may join or renew your Class membership when registering for the Series. For more information, visit www.rsterana.org.

2.2 Boats and competitors shall comply with the RS Tera Class Rules.

2.2.1 Boats shall use RS Tera Sport.

2.2.2 Class Rule A9 is replaced with the following: “All boats shall display sail

numbers. These numbers need not match the number assigned to the hull by the

LIC. In the event duplicate sail numbers exist in a Division, sail numbers not

assigned to the hull by the LIC shall be changed at the direction of the race

committee.”

2.3 Entrants shall be divided into Gold, Silver and Bronze Divisions.

2.3.1 The Bronze Division is intended for sailors with no or very limited experience who are in their first season of racing. Silver fleet is intended for sailors with limited racing experience who are in their first or second seasons of racing. Gold fleet is intended for sailors with extensive previous racing experience.

2.3.2 Sailors finishing in the top 25% of Silver Division or top 90% of Gold Division in a prior Hi-Point Series shall enter in the Gold Division. Other sailors may enter in the Gold Division at their option.

2.3.3 Moving between Divisions: Sailors winning the Silver or Bronze Division in a regatta with at least 10 boats entered in that division shall thereafter enter in the Gold or Silver Divisions respectively. Sailors who finish in the last 15% of Gold or Silver Division in their first or second regatta of the series may switch to the Silver or Bronze Division respectively

2.3.4 Coaches/Advisors in conjunction with the Race Committee should make every possible effort to ensure that competitors are placed in the correct fleet.

2.3.5 The Race Committee of Series regattas may start Divisions together or separately.


3. 2024-25 Regatta Dates and Hosts: Events chosen to be a part of this Series may be added, canceled or changed up to one month prior to the date of the originally scheduled or replacement event, whichever is earlier. Planned dates and Series Regattas are:

Sat., Sep 28 Longyear Regatta, American Legion Yacht Club/Newport Sea Base

Sat., Oct 26 Halloween Regatta, Alamitos Bay Yacht Club

Sat., Dec 7 Poinsettia Regatta, Oceanside Yacht Club

Sat., Feb 1 Super Bowl Charity Regatta, Santa Monica Windjammers YC

Sat., Apr 5 Dana West Yacht Club

Sun., May 4 Series Finale, Westlake Yacht Club


4. Scoring:

4.1 Scoring shall be per RRS A9 except that the high point system will be used. The total score for the series shall be the total of a competitor’s 5 highest regatta scores.

4.2 Regatta points earned for each Series event shall be: One (1) point for each event in which the sailor is scored as a competitor, plus One (1) point for each boat beaten or tied with (in case of unbreakable ties) in the final standings of the event.

4.3 If there is a tie between two or more skippers, the tie will be broken per RRS A8.1 and A8.2.

4.4 One Series Regatta shall constitute a Series.


5. Trophies:

5.1 The RS Tera California Series Perpetual Trophy shall be awarded at the final event of the Series to the Sport Sail Gold, Silver and Bronze Division sailors who have the highest cumulative point score for the scheduled regattas using the scoring system explained above. The names of the winners of both the Gold, Silver and Bronze Divisions shall be inscribed on the Perpetual Trophy. The perpetual trophy may be kept for that year in the Yacht Club of the winning Gold Division skipper. If the club does not have adequate facilities to retain the trophy, it shall then reside at a place determined by the RSTeraNA Series Captain.

5.2 Take home Trophies shall be awarded to the top 5 finishers in the series in both Divisions.


6. Disclaimer of Liability

Competitors participating in any regatta in the series do so entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the any regatta in any regatta in the Series.
